Journey (Summer '99) - The first trip of many to come, it
provided the required practice and experience to properly prepare for the
more intensive, more demanding, more exciting upcoming journeys. A 1,200-mile
ride thought Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Tenessee and North Carolina,
this 5-day trip under inclement weather was the most intensive and exhasuting
way to gather the experience needed to feel comfortable behind the handlebar.
Riding alongside Mica Longwel, an experienced motorcycle traveler and good
friend, Jorge learned important lessons regarding packing for long trips,
preparing the equipment and motorcycle for the journey and riding defensively
and safely on unfamiliar roads. Despite suffering severe neck pain due to
an extremely low positioned handlebar through most of the trip, this beautiful
and enriching trip through the green and majestic smoky mountains will remain
as one of the most memorable ones.
